THE MINI JUNGLE GYM. This is a cage built from the plans by Karen for her son's iguana Kiwi. "Kiwi has grown 2 inches just in the week and a half we've had her! She is now 15" long (with tail). Here's Kiwi looking like she is doing chin-ups! You'll notice on the front of the cage, we simply installed two eye-hook latches; one higher up and one lower down. This works well to lock the door. The gaps at the top and bottom of the door we blocked off by using "gutter guards" cut to size instead of more PVC. I saw them in the hardware store and they looked good, so I bought them. They're plastic, so they can be cut with strong scissors. We didn't cover every PVC pole with bamboo, but we did cover her two horizontal perches, which you'll notice we stretched across from the back to the front, attached to the frame PVC with "T" joints, one high up and one lower down. We have the lights and heater on timers, so each morning at around 8:45, the UVB light and the heat lights go on, and at the same time, the ceramic "lightless" heater goes off. Then at around 9:00 at night, all the lights go off, but then the "lightless" ceramic heater goes on. That is so that she has a little bit of heat coming from above her at night, without the lights shining on her. Right now, we only have 1 heat light on the top instead of the 2. This is because I didn't feel a need to have 2 while she is so small. When she gets bigger and needs a bigger area of heat to cover her body, then we'll pick up another one. Right now, she is small enough to fit her whole body under the heat of just one lamp. We put some of that bamboo blind material on the outside lower half of the cage on the sides. We put in some artificial plants, and we will gradually add more on the outside. Questions? Read the FAQs or email me. Copyright
