Finally - I've designed an enclosure that I can feel good about housing a full grown iguana in, indoors or out. It's 8 feet long, 4 feet deep and 6 feet tall.
A lot of thought went into this new design... for example, there's a rail around the cage at 10" off the ground so that a raised floor - mesh or solid - can be installed easily. There's another rail around the middle of the enclosure that's just the right height from the floor and from the ceiling so that two standard 3' rolls of plastic mesh can be easily cable-tied right on. For an indoor ceiling, a 4x8 sheet of paneling lays right on top - just trim off the corners and cut out the holes for your recessed lights or dome lights and bolt in your UVb fixtures. If you want solid sides, use more paneling or get some lightweight plastic (I got some 4x8 sheets from Walmart (from parklandplastics.com) and cable tie it onto the entire frame. I'll be developing these plans further to show you exactly what I'm talking about - but in the meantime, at least you can build this frame and cover it with plastic mesh to get a giant enclosure right away - quickly and cheaply. These measurements took forever to get exactly right - but they are exactly right now and ready for you to build from.
For my next trick... I'd like to figure out how to configure this giant cage into any of these three cage designs: the Mini Jungle Gym, the Big Jungle Gym or the Jumbo Jungle Gym. Wouldn't that be something!? A three-in-one cage design. Now that would be something that I could take to pet stores and sell, although it'd cost a lot more than if you buy the plans online from me and build it yourself...
What are you waiting for!? Buy the Materials List and go to Home Depot and build one of these cages!!
Do it for your iguana.
