THE MINI JUNGLE GYM. Karen writes: "We're no carpenters, but not too shabby for our first attempt. She is almost always on that top perch under her heat and high up where she feels safe. Most of these things were thrown in "on the fly", but in time, we'll make it look more appealing. Notice that we used the recessed lighting rings I told you about instead of the stove rings. I think they are more attractive, and not at all expensive. You can get them in the lighting section of Lowe's or Home Depot. What we chose to do was to use the 2 on the ends for heat lamps, and the one in the middle for a ceramic heating element with no light, and then of course, there's the UVB light hanging toward the front. To install the UVB light, we drilled a small hole in each end of the plastic case, then drilled 4 small holes in the ceiling, 2 above each end of the light. Then, we ran long cable ties through the holes in the light case up through holes in the ceiling and pulled it tight, so the light is flush with the ceiling. It was so easy. We built a plywood base and added an "inground pool", which we call her "blue lagoon". It's actually a cat litter box. We jig-sawed a hole in the bottom to fit it into and it sits in perfectly. She loves it when we change the water and it is nice and warm. She soaks for awhile before climbing back to the top of her cage. She fits in her pool well, with room to swim, but when she gets bigger, we'll likely install a larger "lagoon". We also used green outdoor carpet for the bottom of the cage. We had 2 of them cut to size so while one is being cleaned and hung up to dry, there is another to use. It cleans easily by just shaking it out outside, and then disinfecting it in the tub and hanging it to dry. Questions? Read the FAQs or email me. Copyright
